This Diwali snack is particularly my favourite one because it is roasted and perfect dish when you feel like munching something crispy. Cornflakes chivda mixture is made using cornflakes as main ingredient. But in my recipe I like to add a couple of healthy ingredients which not only make it tasty but healthier as well. Typically cornflakes mixture deep fried but this one is completely roasted. That’s what makes it so much better, guilt free healthy teatime snack that kids and adults both love.

These dry snacks or nankeens have always been an integral part of Indian kitchens and food. North Indian snacks and South Indian snacks, both are quite similar the only difference mostly is spices used in making these crispy snacks. This namkeen cornflakes mixture has been always a great festive snack Mom makes. As far as I remember I have been making it year after year. Now not only for festive time this one I make regularly at home because I am more of savoury teatime snack person. I would always prefer crunchy snacks like namakpare, nimki, chivda, bhujia or such snacks over sweets any day.
Why this is known as Namkeen Mixture
Mixture in Indian teatime snacks is loosely used for a assortment of various ingredients. So this is an assortments of various grains, like puffed rice, flattened rice, cornflakes and a variety of nuts and dry fruits like cashew and almonds. This dry snack is usually prepared with makai flakes/ corn flakes that is deep fried. But as I said I like to avoid deep frying as far as possible so I like to use Instant corn flakes the ones that are used to make breakfast. For flavouring Cornflakes Mixture you can use your preferred spices. I like to keep simple but well balanced flavours so I just added basics like salt, red chilli powder and turmeric. To balance out the taste I suggest to use a teaspoon of sugar which gives it nice sugary salty profile. Furthermore the kishmish or raisins also add a nice sweetness in this namkeen mixture. This makes this cornflakes mixture is best snack for Diwali. Other thing is this recipe is healthier roasted namkeen, a low fat recipe and a quick snack for teatime or festivals.
