Perfect Rhubarb Margarita Recipe

A wonderful twist on the classic margarita! This amazing rhubarb margarita is vibrant, flavorful, and refreshing. I absolutely love margaritas and I’m on a constant mission to find all the different ways to upgrade a classic margarita (like this mint kiwi margarita, frozen mango margarita, smoked margarita sour, and this pineapple margarita shandy among others!). This simple rhubarb margarita is definitely one of my favorites. Why I love this recipe This cocktail is made with a rhubarb simple syrup, so you can make the cocktail whenever you like, even if you don’t have fresh rhubarb at hand....

Real Food On The Road

Rule no. 1 when traveling: Let no one go hungry! No one - not a baby, toddler, preschooler, kid, teen, wife or husband - is happy when they are hungry. Ward off the hangry beast. Pack some food. And then pack some more. Don’t be caught in traffic or on a delayed plane without some extra snacks on hand. Packing food for travel is easier than it may seem. Whether it’s snacks for a road trip, baby or kid food for a weekend, or goods for a beach week, you can pack up some staples to make sure you’re covered....

S Mores Ice Cream No Churn

My in-laws came to visit this past weekend - after a year of not seeing them - and wow, it was so lovely! (I am blessed with amazing in-laws that I truly love and are so easy to get along with. I know, I’m so lucky.) They had tons of fun playing with the kids - lots of backyard baseball - and were super helpful in getting my spring garden prepped and planted....

Snickerdoodle Pumpkin Cobbler

It starts with a pumpkin layer that’s basically pumpkin pie batter. The pumpkin pie mixture gets spread out in a pan and then we move on to the topping. Which is cookie dough. You really can’t go wrong with where this is going. Instead of having to roll into annoying balls, you’ll just grab pieces of dough and smash them kind of flat in cinnamon sugar and then layer them on top of the pumpkin mixture....

Sour Cream Coffee Cake

For whatever reason, this picture captured my imagination (much like the gumballs and Chompo Bars in A Birthday for Frances…apparently I was fixated on food from a very early age). I wondered why my parents didn’t eat coffee cake at night after they put me in bed and also kind of why we weren’t badgers, but that’s an existential crisis for another blog post. I made my mom make coffee cake so we could be slightly more like a family of anthropomorphic badgers, which, as Mormons in Utah in the 1980s, was slightly scandalous because even the word coffee was spoken in the same hushed tones as “cocaine....

Southwestern Mason Jar Salad

This post originally appeared on Real Housemoms, where I am a contributor. I love that it’s already Tuesday! I’m happy for a short work week after such a fun Labor Day weekend. We were at the beach and had tons of fun with the kiddos in the sand, “surfing” the waves with their boogie boards and searching for beach treasures. We also played at the pool a lot - J is finally getting the hang of swimming and we’re trying to encourage it - and even went to the Charleston Children’s Museum, which has tons of different themed rooms and so many fun activities and imagination-fueled play areas....

Sweet Sour Citrus Chicken Stir Fry

This is another recipe that has become pretty much a weekly staple at our house. I got this recipe from Kitchen Explorers on the PBS website and it was created by Alice Currah, the sweet genius behind Savory Sweet Life. One of my favorite things about this recipe is that it’s like she created it to be adapted and customized to your personal taste. It was such a great jumping-off point and as I’ve made it again and again, it’s evolved into something a little different from how it was written and one of my very favorite meals....

The Best Easy Chimichurri Sauce Recipe

This is a great recipe to make when you’ve got herbs in your fridge to use up, or growing in your garden. The bulk is parsley and oregano and we’ll use a smaller amount of oregano as well. When you’re cutting your herbs up, remember you can cut the parsley and cilantro stems and all- just give them a rough chop to measure, but for the oregano, you’ll want to pull those little stems off the woody stem....

The World S Best Homemade Play Doh

Read more about it after the recipe! So last week, which feels like 50 million years ago, my second grader informed me on Sunday night that he needed to bring homemade salt dough to school the next day. If I were a good mom and checked his folder every night like I’m supposed to, I would have seen this note, but alas, I am not a folder-checking mom and I figure if it’s important enough, he’ll tell me or the teacher will text me, wondering if I’m going to send the field trip money....
