0 2 Published Aug 14, 2024 I’ve been making these pinwheel sandwiches a lot lately for my kids school lunches (see all my favorite lunch box ideas for kids here), but they’re not just for kids! I love eating these for a quick lunch served with sweet potato chips, but they also make for a great party appetizer.

How to Make Pinwheel Sandwiches

Pinwheel Sandwich Variations

There are so many different ways to make pinwheel sandwiches. Here are some flavor variations to try for yourself:

Spicy: Add a layer of sliced jalapeños or add sriracha sauce to the cream cheese mixture for a spicy twist. Mediterranean: Swap the ranch seasoning with tzatziki sauce and add ingredients like feta cheese, olives and roasted red peppers for a Mediterranean-inspired pinwheel. Vegetarian: Use hummus or mashed avocado instead of the turkey, and load up with extra veggies like shredded carrots, bell peppers and cucumber for a delicious vegetarian option. Italian: Replace the turkey with salami and/or pepperoni, and add mozzarella cheese and a few slices of tomato and basil leaves. And don’t forget a drizzle of balsamic glaze! Sweet and Savory: Spread a thin layer of cranberry sauce or fig jam along with the cream cheese mixture. This adds a bit of sweetness to the savory turkey and cheese.

How to Store

Pinwheel sandwiches are great for meal prep and can be stored easily. Here’s how you can keep them fresh:

Salads: Pair your pinwheels with a vibrant and crunchy salad. Try this kale salad or easy spinach salad for a refreshing side. Soup: A warm bowl of tomato basil soup or vegetable soup would be the perfect side to these pinwheel sandwiches. Fruit: Serve with some seasonal fresh fruit or a fruit salad for a light and sweet side. Dips: These pinwheel sandwiches are a perfect companion to some tortilla chips or pita chips and a dip. Try this lima bean hummus spinach artichoke dip or black bean dip. Chips: I serving chips alongside my sandwiches and these pinwheels are no different. I love my baked sweet potato chips, but you can’t go wrong with real deal potato chips. I usually try to grab one that’s made with avocado oil or olive oil.

In the fridge: Place the pinwheel sandwiches in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This keeps the fillings fresh and prevents the bread from drying out. In the freezer: You can freeze pinwheel sandwiches for longer storage. Wrap each pinwheel tightly in plastic wrap and then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before serving.
